This eight-week advanced workshop is designed for writers who have completed Novel II or an equivalent class and are ready to move on to the next phase of drafting their novel. Although most students will have a completed rough draft, students who are in the process of writing the first draft are also welcome. We will discuss opening hooks, sympathetic characters, escalating conflict, cause and effect, subplot, revision and more. In addition, we will talk about the nuts and bolts of finding an agent and getting published. Most of the class format will revolve around thoughtful and constructive discussion of student pages. Each person will have the opportunity to workshop one chapter and an outline.
This class will take place in Culver City, where wine, sparkling water, and the occasional gourmet snack will be served.
7:30 to 9:30 pm
April 18, 2018 to June 13, 2018 (with no class on June 6)
